The completed building.
The North York Moors National Park Authority set out to construct an
environmentally friendly building constructed within an old walled
kitchen garden. The brief was
to produce a sustainable structure with a negative carbon print.
The finished building has certainly produced a 'wow' factor, and was shortlisted
for the WoodAwards 2007 - a prestigious national awards ceremony.
Scrapping the proposed sedum roof and replacing the steel frame with a
hardwood timber post and beam construction using only locally sourced
timber met the client's needs and gained them a certificate from GreenBeams.com
for the carbon stored for the foreseeable future.
Architect Wm Saunders Partnership were delighted with the prospect
of
creating a building that was totally unique.
Quantity Surveyors Iddison Dodd & Partners were amazed at the low
cost of the timber.
Carpenters from Woodhouse Barry Construction enjoyed working with the
green oak.
