Preservation of Grade 1 listed Church after fire

October-November 2007

The Arch at the base of the tower was supported by a chunky timber temporary shutter for repair works to be carried out.

The voussoir were replaced where spalled or cracked from the fire, and a large void in the wall was grouted (above).

The two leaves of stone were then "stitched" together using Cintec ties (below).

The Nave roof is now complete and fully tiled, doing great justice to this traditionally styled yet modern-engineered design.

A reinforced concrete slab with a central hexagonal opening for access was cast with a raised square plinth to support the new spire which was fabricated and erected off-site. This was then dismantled and lifted in individual pieces to the top of the tower, where it was re-assembled and boarded ready for the copper covering.
