CONSERVATION OF ANCIENT MONUMENTS



The Gatehouse to Whorlton Castle, near Stokesley
The Practice have acted as Project Managers for upkeep of the castle and this has included monitoring of movement in the foundations. Current considerations involve restoring the gatehouse back to residential accommodation to reduce deterioration and to provide on-site security.




St Olave Church,
Marygate, York

On the ancient burial ground of St Mary’s Abbey A report was prepared on causes of cracking to the Victorian Lady Chapel and Chancel attached to the mediaeval Nave. The building was found to have no foundations but rested on numerous skeletal remains. A structural solution was recommended which avoided having to disturb the site.




Jervaulx Abbey
For the owner Me Rae Burdon working with Martin Stancliffe Architects. Structural advice for temporary and permanent works to stabilize parts of the monastic ruins.




Lay Brothers Rere Dorter arch at Jervaulx Abbey after removal of precautionary falsework. The arch ring, and a monastic culvert drain running transversely beneath, were both consolidated and a reinforced concrete beam was inserted across the near springing to replace the failed Victorian buttressing.
