
This chapel was constructed for monks from Jervaulx Abbey travelling principally to Rievaulx or Whitby Abbeys. It was modified in the 17th or 18th century and has been used recently as an agricultural barn.
Structural & Civil Consultants Ltd advised on methods of stabilising the structure. Any works had to be compatible with subsequent conversion of the building to a residential property.

This building is described as the finest surviving watermill associated
with an Abbey. It dates back to the 12th & 13th centuries and has
been adapted for use as a sawmill and for generating electricity to
light Fountains Hall.
