REPORTS ON LISTED BUILDINGS

Royal Mail Sorting Office,
Sunderland

The purchaser of this building was concerned that it lay in a non-commercial zone. The Listing dealt only with the architectural ornamentation, but we drew attention to the exceptional ironwork in the roof which would be more compatible with continued mixed use.

Planning Consent for demolition of the old mill buildings required that the medieval wall should remain. We were able to justify the stability of the old wall without any strengthening.

Former Salvation Army Citadel,
Sunderland

The owners of this converted building wanted to demolish the whole structure to create a car sales area. The rear arena was found to be structurally sound and commercially viable, but we also suggested ways to keep the more interesting ‘fort’ part of the building.

Ellerby Lodge
For North York Moors National Park

. We prepared an independent report after alterations to this C16 property ran into difficulties, because the owners faced different requirements from Building Control and the Planning Authority over treatment of the leaning front wall.
